Bright moon, when will you be full?
Holding my wine cup I ask the blue sky
Up there in the palaces of the moon
Not knowing what year it is tonight
If only I could ride the wind
To the jade mansions on the moon
Though it maybe cold so high up
Dacing alone with my shadow
I'm better off in the earthly world.
Retiring to the red chamber
Moonlight beneath the carved window
Teasing through the sleepless night.
The moon should not know sadness
Why is it always full when we part?
In joy or sorrow, in reunion or parting
The moon waxes or wanes, bright or dim
The way things have been since of old
May thoes living far apart live long
And share the bright moon with their beloved.
